AI Novel Writing Assistant: Scene, Revision & Continuity Examples
See practical AI writing prompts, scene revision examples and a manuscript continuity workflow. Learn how to review suggestions and keep control of your novel.
A scene revision example you can evaluate
The examples below are invented to demonstrate a writing workflow; they are not captured AI results. Start with a small request whose effect you can judge.
Original: “I am angry you sold the boat,” Nell said. “I thought you would be happy,” Oren replied. Nell looked away.
Request: “Make the tension less explicit. Keep Oren responsible for selling the boat and keep Nell from forgiving him. Suggest one alternative; do not add a new event.”
Illustrative alternative: Nell set the unused mooring rope on the table. Oren reached for it. “I thought—” She moved her hand away before his could touch hers.
Review the tradeoff: the revision adds subtext, but removes the explicit sale. If the reader does not already know the boat was sold, retain that information. Check both the emotional effect and the facts before using a suggestion.
A continuity question needs the earlier evidence
Suppose chapter two places the archive key with Oren, while chapter six has Nell unlock the archive. Ask: “Find the passages showing who holds the key before chapter six. Does Nell receive it on the page?”
A useful answer points to the relevant passages, distinguishes a shown handoff from an assumption, and leaves the author to decide whether to add a handoff, change the lock, or make the discrepancy intentional.
For a quick first look, the free chapter analyzer can review 50–1,500 words of fiction. It only sees the submitted excerpt. For a question spanning chapters, add or import the manuscript into the writing workspace and review the sources yourself.
- Ask for the source passages, not just a confident conclusion.
- Keep established facts separate from a character’s beliefs.
- Mark missing evidence as unknown instead of asking the assistant to invent a fix.
Plan the next scene without giving away a later reveal
Request: “Suggest three ways Nell could confront Oren after the boat sale. Use the consequences already established in the draft. Keep the archive’s hidden owner unrevealed.”
Compare options by what changes: a direct confrontation may force Oren to make a promise; an interrupted conversation may leave Nell to act alone; a quiet practical task may expose the damage through their behavior. These are possible directions, not events that have already happened.
Choose a direction, revise it in your own voice, and check the chapter before accepting changes. Author notes and protected fields can retain decisions you do not want AI assistance to overwrite.
